Course Overview
The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a qualification designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities (eg. managers, supervisors and employee representatives) to carry out their organisational duties and functions more effectively and to protect the organisations for whom they work. The NEBOSH National General Certificate has long been recognised as an award signifying that the holder has a good basic knowledge and understanding of occupational Health and Safety.
Course Syllabus
The syllabus is divided into three units - two taught units NGC1 and NGC2 and a supervised practical assessment in a suitable workplace environment (Unit NGC3). The duration of study for the National General Certificate is a minimum of 80 hours plus private study and background reading.

NGC2: Controlling workplace hazards
- Movement of people and vehicles - hazards and control
- Manual and mechanical handling hazards and control
- Working equipment hazards and control
- Electrical hazards and control
- Fire hazards and control
- Chemical and biological health hazards and control
- Physical and psychological health hazards and control
- Construction activities - hazards and control
Assessment
The system of assessment consists of two written examination units (NGC1 & 2) and a practical unit assessed in a workplace situation (NGC3). External examinations (NGC1 and NGC2) are each of two hours' duration and are set and marked by NEBOSH. The written examinations are held on the Sunday following each tuition week, leaving Saturday free for private study.
The practical application unit (NGC3) consists of carrying out a health and safety inspection in a suitable workplace environment and preparing a management report. This is set and marked by a suitably qualified assessor, approved by NEBOSH, to standards set and moderated by NEBOSH.
Candidates achieving the minimum of 'pass' standard in all three units will be awarded the National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
Course Pre-requisites
No previous health and safety knowledge is required but delegates must be able to write short reports and may be asked to complete a short test to demonstrate their skills of written communication.
One Lump or Two
The course can be completed in one continuous block or we offer the flexibility often required in modern business of splitting the two blocks. For example - undertake NGC1 of one course and NGC2 of another.

Teaching Methods
This is an intensive course comprising both tuition and personal study. Course delivery consists of direct presentation, case studies, videos, written exercises and mock examinations.
